Large van couriers: Transporting bigger loads in less time
Using a large van courier has its advantages in way of efficiency.
Bigger vans mean of course you can respond to the growing demand to transport and deliver a high number of boxes or items in a single trip. When you book a large van couriers it also often offers the opportunity to consolidate multiple smaller loads into a single vehicle, providing they’re going in a similar direction. This would mean less vehicles on the road which again is more cost effective and reduces emissions, lowering carbon footprint.
What is a large van
Vans are typically rated in 4 size categories. Here’s a breakdown of those size categories.
- Small vans: Quick and efficient allowing for easy access on tight roads. Something we’ve discussed in previous articles you can read more here
- Short wheelbase vans: A medium size van popularly referred to simply as a transit van due to the long standing popularity of the Ford Transit. Although not a large van by definition if utilised correctly these van can handle a lot even moving small homes.
- Long wheelbase vans: Now this is these are the large vans. Commonly referred to as sprinter vans due to the popularity of the Mercedes large van. This is where our criteria for a large van is defined. Usually with a loading space starting at 3.2m × 1.7m (L x W). These vans can comfortably carry out a house move and carry heavy loads allowing distributors to transport up to 3 pallets at a time.
- Luton vans: Commonly referred to as a box van. This is the largest van size available within what’s known as light goods vehicles category. With the largest loading space available these are often used to move large quantities of boxes, furniture, house moves and events logistics. A great choice for carrying heavier items as they often have a tail lift to assist loading pallets for delivery.

Why choose a large van courier?
This is pretty straight forward. If any single item you wish to transport is longer than 2.5m you’ll require a large van for your delivery. But it’s not just about single items of course it allows you to carry bulkier and heavier items for delivery and more boxes. When it comes to delivery of any size item there will be an element of manual handling. Now if you’re transporting bulky and heavy items, at some point throughout out the delivery there will be a need to lift the items in and out. An advantage to using large van couriers is the head space to actually stand tall in the van and lift to your full capability without hitting your head or needing to remain crouched over which could cause injury.
